SPECIAL NOTES

  • ​​Visitors’ families (spouse/kids) are eligible to participate
  • Visitors have 30-days for additional travel  after  program
  • Cultural activities are a required component
  • The College is the HOST; NIEA is the J-1 SPONSOR

RESEARCH SCHOLARS:

  • Individuals who  come to conduct research, observe, or consult in connection with a research project
  • They can also teach or lecture
  • Maximum duration of program is 5-years

  • Each college identifies, screens and invites candidates

FUNDING

  • ​​Each college determines the total funding necessary including salary, fair value of housing, and stipends
  • Personal Accident and Health Insurance must be provided
  • Home country funding and scholarships can be included to assure the support necessary for the exchange

SHORT-TERM SCHOLARS

  • Individuals who come to lecture, observe, consult or train
  • Can be professors, research scholars or specialists
  • This category is ideal for short-term participants
  • Maximum duration of program is 6-months


     

PROFESSORS:

  • Individuals who  will teach, lecture, observe or consult at post-secondary accredited educational organizations
  • They can also  conduct research
  • Maximum duration of program is 5-years

NIEA is a U.S. State Department designated J-1 Exchange Visitor Program. This program assists member institutions to sponsor J-1 visas for international scholars to teach, travel, and research in the United States.
